Grimm's Rainbow Sunset

A beautiful 10 piece wooden stacking and open ended toy painted to reflect the brilliant colours of a sunset. While the famouse Grimm's 12 piece rainbow is made from the lower part of the Linden tree, these slightly smaller 10 piece rainbows are made from higher parts as the tree tapers upwards.

Please note that knots, patterns and rich grain colours are part of the natural beauty of the wood and are normal and treasured features of Grimm's toys.  Each senset is cut from a single block of wood and you will often see the same features continuing through the various sunset pieces. Water based stain is used to colour the product which does not cover features within the wood. 

A unique characteristic of Grimms wooden toys is the velvety surface resulting from the use of colour glaze that penetrates into the wood, leaving a matte finish rather than a glossy one. The individual pieces are dipped by hand into the stain and Grimms intentionally do not put a final protective coating on it to preserve the positive characteristics of the wood. This method guarantees that toys stack more easily with greater play possibilities, and children feel and experience the wood fibres and structure while playing.

From time to time colour transfer will result in new products that carry some excess colour pigments. Grimms recommend wiping the transferred surface with a wet, lint-free cloth to remove colour pigments.

Grimms colours are non-toxic, water based stains that are absolutely harmless and tested in-depth for colour fastness in contact with saliva. This test uses a liquid comparable to standard human saliva. However, some people’s saliva does vary from the “standard”, so some colour may transfer under those conditions, but the stains are harmless.
